Rep. Kiley’s Legislation to Reverse Newsom’s Gas Car Ban Passes Senate
WASHINGTON – Rep. Kevin Kiley’s (R-CA) Congressional Review Act Resolution reversing California’s upcoming ban on gas-powered vehicles, which he introduced in the House last month, has passed the U.S. Senate.
The CRA passed the House with bipartisan support in early May. Once President Trump signs the legislation, the reversal will be official.
“Californians can be grateful that we have checks and balances,” Rep. Kiley said. “Gov. Newsom’s attempt to unilaterally ban most of the cars in our state could not survive a democratic vote by representatives of the people. I’m grateful that my legislation has passed the House and Senate, and I look forward to seeing it signed into law by the President. Californians should be able to drive the car of their choice, not one chosen for them by the government.”
The CRA repeals California’s Advanced Clean Cars II waiver. That federal waiver was what allowed the State to ban the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2035.
