WASHINGTON – Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-CA), author of the No Medicaid for Illegal Immigrants Act, issued the following statement in response to the Energy & Commerce Committee including a provision in the budget reconciliation text that will decrease the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP) from 90% to 80% for states that allow illegal aliens to receive Medicaid.

“I have spent the last several months meeting with healthcare providers throughout my district, along with nonprofits, with patient advocates, and many other stakeholders. All of these groups have conveyed to me the importance of protecting Medi-Cal. That is why I have opposed cutting benefits for eligible beneficiaries. But now, thanks to Governor Newsom and the Legislature’s reckless actions, we could lose billions in federal funding, harming the very vulnerable populations I have fought to protect.

“While I know the Governor is busy hosting podcasts and setting up new political websites, I would urge him to find time to listen to the voices of vulnerable Californians about what Medicaid cuts would mean for them. He and the Legislature can protect our funding today by reversing the reckless policy, which no other state has, of spending our taxpayers on comprehensive coverage for illegal immigrants. I am urging them to do so immediately.”
