Rep. Kiley Backs DHS Funding Bill, Calls for Lasting Bipartisan Fix

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Kevin Kiley (I-CA) released the following statement after the House passed legislation to fund the Department of Homeland Security:

“The ongoing shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security is a stark example of how hyper-partisanship in Congress is failing the American people. I have voted to fund the Department every chance I’ve had. I voted for tonight’s short-term funding extension in the House and would also support the partial funding measure that passed the Senate early this morning. Either bill would get more of our federal employees paid. Enacting either one is significantly better than doing nothing.

Yet both bills are temporary mitigations, not true solutions. What we need is a bipartisan Homeland Security bill that funds all components of the department while adopting common-sense reforms to focus the mission of immigration enforcement and rebuild trust. Several such proposals have already received bipartisan support. The American people deserve action, not further gridlock, especially at a time of heightened threats to the homeland.”
