Rep. Kiley Applauds Disaster Request, Urges President to Issue Declaration Without Delay
“Many Californians remain without power and are running low on food, fuel, and other supplies as severe storms continue to impact our communities. Last week, I requested that Acting Governor Eleni Kounalakis immediately request a Major Disaster Declaration from the President and appreciate that Governor Newsom has returned to California and done so. I urge President Biden to approve this request without delay to facilitate overdue federal aid to residents in need.” – Congressman Kevin Kiley
Background: Congressman Kiley and members of the California Delegation successfully requested that Governor Newsom declare a state of emergency to facilitate state aid on March 1st. Congressman Kiley later requested that Acting Governor Eleni Kounalakis request a Major Disaster Declaration from President Biden to facilitate federal aid on March 3rd, and also worked with members of the California Delegation to request that President Biden grant a Major Disaster Declaration request from California as soon as it is received.
