Rep. Kiley Calls on Acting Governor Kounalakis to Request Major Disaster Declaration

Congressman Kiley has officially requested that Acting Governor Eleni Kounalakis request a Major Disaster Declaration from President Biden. Residents in mountain communities are currently without power, running low on food, fuel, and other supplies, and state resources are not sufficient to respond to the ongoing emergency. With more storms forecasted through the weekend, it is imperative that federal assistance is facilitated to impacted communities without delay. You can read a copy of the letter to Acting Governor Kounalakis here.

Background: Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis is currently serving as Acting Governor, as Governor Newsom is traveling out of state for personal reasons. This letter follows Congressman Kiley and members of the California Congressional Delegation successfully requesting Governor Newsom to declare a State of Emergency to facilitate state resources to impacted communities. Congressman Kiley, along with members of the California Congressional Delegation, have also requested that President Biden immediately grant a Major Disaster Declaration request from California as soon as it is received.
