WASHINGTON – Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-CA) spoke on the House Floor today with a simple message for the U.S. Senate: Don’t mess with our public lands.

In the Floor speech, Rep. Kiley warned that a proposed provision related to public land sales, or any similar proposal, would imperil the entire reconciliation package if it is included in the final version of the bill. Representing California’s Third District, a region known for its public lands, Rep. Kiley emphasized that these lands are vital to local communities.

“Our beautiful public lands are essential to the character of our region, and I will fight to protect them in every way I can,” Rep. Kiley said. “The will of our local communities cannot be subordinated to closed-door decisions in Washington. The Senate must drop any proposed land sales provision before sending the reconciliation bill back to the House.”

Last month, House lawmakers removed federal land sales from the reconciliation bill after Rep. Kiley called for its removal. But similar language has reemerged in the Senate. The ultimate Senate-passed bill will require a final vote of the House in order to reach the President’s desk.
