Congressman Kiley Secures $5.5 Million in Federal Funding for Public Safety and Infrastructure Projects in California’s Third District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Kevin Kiley (CA-03) announced that several of his top Community Project Funding requests were included in the appropriations package passed by Congress last week.

The projects—part of the Fiscal Year 2026 Appropriations Bill—deliver major federal investments that will strengthen public safety, emergency response, and critical infrastructure across California’s 3rd District. All funds are fully offset and come at no added cost to taxpayers.

“Securing these investments is a major win for the communities I represent,” said Rep. Kiley. “These projects address urgent needs, from improving law enforcement readiness to strengthening fire protection capabilities to ensuring safe drinking water.”

Below is the full list of funded projects:


Nevada County Sheriff’s Office – Regional Indoor Firearms Range and Training Facility

  • Recipient: Nevada County Sheriff’s Office
  • Amount Secured: $2,475,000
  • Purpose: To construct a modern indoor firearms training facility providing year-round, reliable training for law enforcement agencies across the region. The multi-agency facility will serve as a major regional asset and a responsible investment in public safety.

City of Bishop – Fire Ladder Truck

  • Recipient: City of Bishop
  • Amount Secured: $1,214,366
  • Purpose: To replace an aging ladder truck critical to protecting Bishop residents, especially as multi-story buildings become more common. The new truck will expand the department’s reach and enhance fire response capabilities throughout the region.

Nevada County Consolidated Fire – Special Operations Medium Rescue Vehicle

  • Recipient: Nevada County Consolidated Fire
  • Amount Secured: $337,000
  • Purpose: To purchase a Special Operations Medium Rescue Vehicle equipped for technical rescues, emergency response, and mutual-aid operations across Nevada County. The vehicle will provide capabilities essential to fire agencies, the Sheriff’s dive team, local government partners, utilities, contractors, residents, and visitors.

  • Purpose: To construct a new water treatment plant that will remove arsenic, iron, and manganese from the community’s water supply, ensuring long-term access to clean, safe drinking water that meets EPA standards.
