I have been working with local leaders and officials to improve safety and reduce traffic congestion in our District.
I advocated for and secured $4 million for the City of Folsom’s US-50 Empire Ranch Road Interchange Project. The purpose of this project is to construct a new interchange on US-50 to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety. This project benefits the community by reducing traffic congestion, and improving safety on adjacent interchanges, ultimately enhancing local and regional circulation and transportation infrastructure in Folsom and surrounding areas.
Additionally, Folsom received $1,040,000 for their Lake Crossing Safety Improvement Phase II Project, which enhance road safety on Folsom Lake Crossing by adding a median barrier rail to minimize head-on collisions, injuries, and fatalities. This project benefits the community by enhancing safety on the Folsom Lake Crossing, reducing head-on collisions, injuries, and fatalities on a critical regional connector serving thousands of vehicles daily. In the past 5 years, there have been 59 accidents, 47 injuries, and 3 fatalities on this road.
Congressman Ami Bera (D-CA) and I supported a grant for the Capital SouthEast Connector Expressway Project, which will play a pivotal role in transforming Grant Line Road into an expressway, addressing longstanding safety concerns, and improving traffic conditions on this heavily traveled route. With this, we can significantly reduce collision risks, alleviate congestion, and ensure safer travel for all commuters. This is a remarkable example of how partnerships between cities, counties, the state, and the federal government can solve problems that improve safety, livability, air quality, and local and regional economies.
In the most recent appropriations process, we secured $2 million for the Capital South East Connector Joint Powers Authority’s White Rock Road Improvement Project. The Project will reconstruct 3-miles of existing roadway into a four-lane divided complete street corridor with a separated Class I bike path, Class II buffered bike lanes, and sidewalks in the City of Folsom and El Dorado County. The project will function as a gap closure connecting existing bike and pedestrian facilities at each end of the project, and the funding will be used for the construction phase of the project.
Also, for Sacramento Regional Transit District, we secured $3 million in funding for the Hazel and Iron Point Stations and Park & Ride Modifications Project. SacRT will be able to modify and upgrade two light rail stations to accommodate new low-floor light rail vehicles, improve boarding/lighting, and improve safety and service for all riders. The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because the area these stations are located in will increase in population over the next decade, and upgrades to the station will allow for faster loading, improving service consistency, reliability, and on-time performance. Convenient and easy level boarding/alighting will be less stressful, reduce accidents, improve rider experience, and encourage new ridership.
The Sacramento Regional Transit District recently celebrated a significant milestone with a groundbreaking event marking the start of construction on the Watt/I-80 Transit Center Improvement Project. The Watt/I-80 light rail project represents a significant step forward for the Sacramento region, enhancing public transit accessibility and fostering sustainable urban growth by connecting more communities with efficient and reliable transportation options. Embarking on this project shows how interconnected our region really is and how critical it is that our transit system is as accessible, safe and easy to navigate as possible. This project moves the ball in the right direction, and I am proud to work with local leaders to support this project.
On the topic of public safety, I recently met with my friend Sacramento County Sheriff Jim Cooper and his team to discuss how my office can support their efforts to combat fentanyl, human trafficking, crime and retail theft. I am grateful for the Sheriff’s leadership and partnership on these important issues, and for all men and women in our area’s outstanding law enforcement agencies.
Folsom Visits
It was an honor to speak at the 4th annual Folsom Police Foundation Gala. Thank you to the amazing men and women of the Folsom Police Department for all you do to keep our community safe. CLICK HERE to read more in the Folsom Times.
Last year, I stopped at the Folsom Fire Department to present special congressional recognition to Hearts4Heroes for supporting our first responders and placing Blitz the Folsom Fire Dog at Folsom Fire Station #39 as part of their Paw Platoon Placement Dedication. I look forward to returning soon!
Thank you to all the constituents who came out to our July “Get the Scoop with Your Congressman” at Leatherby’s Family Creamery in Folsom. Hearing from you is the most important part of my job, and it was great to celebrate National Ice Cream Month by supporting a local small business. If you have a question or concern about a local or national policy matter, or if you need assistance with a matter involving the federal government, my office is always here for you.

Thank you to Folsom Mayor Rodriguez and Choose Folsom for leading a business walk on Sutter Street. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and I will continue to fight for policies that enable them to thrive.
