Representative Kiley to Reacts to Supreme Court Oral Argument
WASHINGTON – Today Representative Kevin Kiley (R-CA) attended oral arguments in the case of City of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Gloria Johnson at the Supreme Court. Kiley led an amicus brief, joined by several other Members of the House, asking the Court to reverse the 9th Circuit decision.
“Homelessness in California is a crisis and a tragedy. But today can be a new day. I filed a brief asking the Supreme Court to give our communities back the ability to regulate homeless encampments in a common sense way. The Court appears poised to that by reversing misguided 9th Circuit decisions that are out-of-step with the rest of the country. This case is an opportunity to reclaim our public spaces, restore order, reduce crime, protect public health, and get homeless individuals the assistance they need,” said Rep. Kiley.
BACKGROUND:
Last month, Rep. Kiley joined by five other Members of the House from western states, filed an Amicus Brief in this landmark homelessness case. In City of Grants Pass, Oregon v.
