Representative Kiley to Attend City of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Gloria Johnson Oral Arguments Before Supreme Court on April 22
WASHINGTON – Representative Kevin Kiley (R-CA) will attend oral arguments in the case of City of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Gloria Johnson on Monday, April 22. Last month, Rep. Kiley joined by five other Members of the House from western states, filed an Amicus Brief in this landmark homelessness case. In City of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Gloria Johnson, the Court can overturn a line of 9th Circuit decisions that prevent state and local governments from regulating or banning camping on public lands.
Rep. Kiley will be available to speak to the media at 10:45am on the 22nd immediately following the oral arguments. Please RSVP to Michael.Rauber@mail.house.gov if you wish to attend the press availability outside the Supreme Court.
“Our communities have seen a dramatic increase in homelessness, crime, and drug use as a result of the 9th Circuit’s misguided decisions. We are urging the Supreme Court to enable local jurisdictions to adopt common sense policies to limit encampments in public spaces. Cities need to be able to act to protect public health and safety, while at the same time connecting those in need with services,” said Rep. Kiley.
