WASHINGTON – Today H.R. 471, the Fix Our Forests Act, cosponsored by Representative Kevin Kiley (R-CA), passed in the House of Representatives. This bipartisan piece of legislation will restore forest health, increase resilience to devastating wildfires, and protect at-risk communities.

“Restoring the health of our forests isn’t just about protecting trees — it’s about safeguarding our communities, wildlife, and water supplies for generations to come. The Fix Our Forests Act will increase resiliency to catastrophic wildfires, and protect communities by expediting environmental analyses, reducing frivolous lawsuits, and increasing the pace and scale of forest restoration projects. The Fix Our Forests Act will provide agencies with critical tools to implement the most vital forest management projects immediately. I am grateful to see this bill pass with bipartisan support, and I hope it will soon pass in the Senate and be signed into law,” said Rep. Kiley.

“I praise Congressman Kiley for supporting the House’s passage of H.R. 471, the Fix Our Forests Act, which promotes active forest management and will enhance community resilience against wildfires,” said Robert Dugan, Chairman of the Placer County Water Agency (PCWA). “This bipartisan legislation will expedite environmental reviews in high-risk ‘firesheds’ and streamline environmental consultations, allowing PCWA to accelerate critical forest and watershed restoration projects. The current fire insurance crisis requires a comprehensive approach, as promoted by this bill, to reduce wildfire risks and protect our communities.”

“We are relieved to see Congress take action on the Fix Our Forests Act. While these actions to protect our residents are incredibly important, this is only the beginning and we need more solutions on the table. Nevada County has witnessed firsthand the devastating toll of catastrophic wildfires, underscoring the urgent need for proactive policy solutions. Bold action in wildfire mitigation is essential to protect our residents, reduce future risks, and bring much-needed stability to the insurance market. Strategic forest management enhances community resilience while fostering long-term environmental health and economic vitality. By investing in sustainable solutions today, we can ensure a safer, more resilient future for generations to come,” said Supervisor Heidi Hall, Chair of the Nevada County Board of Supervisors.

The bill passed by a vote of 279-141.
