On Saturday, February 3, Representative Kevin Kiley will join Placer County DA Morgan Gire, Nevada County DA Jesse Wilson, El Dorado County DA Vern Pierson, and former Sacramento County DA Anne-Marie Schubert at a signature gathering event for the initiative to amend Prop. 47. The initiative has already gathered over 300,000 signatures. A total of 546,000 valid signatures is needed by April 23, 2024 for it to qualify for this November’s ballot.

Rep. Kiley and the District Attorneys will deliver brief remarks at 1 PM. The remarks will be live streamed as well.

WHAT: Event in support of The Homelessness, Drug Addiction, and Theft Reduction Act.

WHO: Rep. Kiley, DA Gire, DA Wilson, DA Pierson, Former DA Schubert

WHERE: Roseville Square, 1095 Roseville Sq, Roseville, CA 95678 (Between Bank of America and Grocery Outlet)

WHEN: Saturday, February 3, 1:00pm

LIVESTREAM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBxOWtn5PZk

BACKGROUND: As a Member of the California Legislature, Rep. Kiley proposed legislation to put a Prop. 47 repeal on the ballot, so that voters could evaluate the law a decade after its passage. The Public Safety Committee rejected that effort. With the current initiative campaign, California voters have an opportunity to qualify the measure for the ballot themselves, without the need for approval by the Legislature.

Polling shows that the current initiative would pass with the support of 70 percent of California voters. The text of the initiative can be found here.

Please email Michael.Rauber@mail.house.gov by 5 p.m. PT on 2/2 to RSVP.
