Rep. Kiley Advocates for Robust AmeriCorps Funding to Improve Teaching Programs
WASHINGTON – This week, Representative Kevin Kiley (R-CA) asked the Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies Committee on Appropriations to provide strong funding for AmeriCorps in its 2026 fiscal year bill.
AmeriCorps addresses national workforce shortages through professional programs like Teach for America (TFA), which places high-impact teachers in underserved schools.
“As a proud TFA alumnus, I’ve seen firsthand how impactful the program is for students and teachers,” Rep. Kiley said. “Professional Corps programs like TFA are proven, cost-effective solutions to longstanding workforce challenges, especially teacher shortages, and continued investment in these programs will have a meaningful, measurable impact on students and communities across the country.”
For more than 30 years, TFA has placed teachers in rural areas, underserved urban communities, public carter schools, and other high-need classrooms. Many TFA teachers also serve in hard-to-staff subjects such as STEM and special education.
