WASHINGTON – On Thursday, February 6, 2025, Representative Kevin Kiley (R-CA) will take part in a major House Judiciary Committee hearing on “California Fires and the Consequences of Overregulation.” Rep. Kiley, who helped organize the hearing, will help lead it off by introducing the three witnesses and directly addressing the egregious failures of policy and governance in California. He will later question the witnesses about changes for bringing common sense to California’s water and forest management policies.

The hearing, held by the Subcommittee on the Administrative State, Regulatory Reform, and Antitrust, will begin at 10:00 a.m. ET. and will examine the real impacts of regulatory policy on the prevention of natural disasters, particularly in the case of California’s wildfires. This hearing will also address how excessive regulation on insurance and permitting serves as a roadblock to those recovering from disaster.

“This hearing is a vital step in restoring common sense to California’s approach to water and forest management. Unfortunately, Governor Newsom has failed Californians again and again, while the Supermajority in Sacramento has failed to provide appropriate oversight. With this hearing, there will finally be some accountability, along with a warning to the rest of the nation about avoiding California’s mistakes,” said Rep. Kiley.
