I have been working with local leaders and officials to improve transportation options and safety as well as reduce traffic congestion in our District.
I secured $3.2 million for the City of Roseville Blue Oaks Boulevard Roadway & Bridge Widening Project. This project will widen the Blue Oaks Roadway and Boulevard Bridge to alleviate a critical transportation bottleneck. This project benefits the community by alleviating a critical traffic pinch point on Blue Oaks Boulevard, expediting evacuation times in emergencies, and improving overall connectivity for residents in western Roseville and surrounding areas while supporting future regional growth and transportation needs.
“Funding for the Blue Oaks Boulevard Roadway and Bridge Widening Project advances congestion solutions for one of Placer County’s busiest transportation corridors. Not only is Blue Oaks Boulevard a key regional artery and freeway connector, it also serves as a critical emergency evacuation route. This investment has an economic ripple effect by strengthening the link to Sacramento International Airport, two forthcoming universities, as well as innovation and jobs centers,” said Roseville Mayor Bruce Houdesheldt.
In the most recent House Appropriations process, we secured $3 million for the City of Rocklin’s Interstate 80/Rocklin Road Interchange Improvements Project. This project will reconfigure on/off ramps of Interstate 80 (I-80) at Rocklin Road by installing a diverging diamond interchange resulting in improved traffic flow on Rocklin Road, reduced potential for the queuing of vehicles onto I-80, and providing for a pedestrian overcrossing thereby allowing bicycles and pedestrians to safely cross the freeway. The funding request would be used for right of way acquisition of private property as the project impacts a commercial gas station and other private properties.
The Town of Loomis will receive $1 million for their I-80/Horseshoe Bar Road Interchange Improvement Project, a proposed modification to the existing interchange that will increase safety and minimize congestion in order to maintain an acceptable Level of Service for future traffic demands. The initial concept design has proposed the construction of roundabouts for the interchange. Other infrastructure improvements associated with the project may include signal reconfigurations, new turn lanes, on and off-ramp widening, and over-crossing modifications.
Finally, we secured $1 million for Placer County’s Baseline Road Traffic Safety Improvement and Signal Project. The funding will improve safety and reduce delays at three exiting stop-controlled intersections along this critically important east-west arterial roadway that connects residents to job centers in downtown Sacramento. The project will install traffic signals and the addition of dedicated left turn pockets at three intersections.
To improve our water infrastructure in Placer County, I secured $1.25 million for the San Juan Water District Kokila Reservoir Replacement Project. The purpose of this project is to replace the aging Kokila Reservoir with a new partially buried prestressed tank. This project would benefit the community by ensuring reliable drinking water delivery and protecting public health and safety for the 330,000 residents in Placer and Sacramento counties. Learn more about this project here.
“We wish to acknowledge Representative Kevin Kiley for his role in securing federal support for this project,” said SJWD Board Chair Manuel Zamorano. “His focus on addressing the needs of our region ensures the safety and reliability of drinking water for residents in Placer and Sacramento counties.”
I also secured $1.25 million for North Tahoe Public Utility District’s Kings Beach Drinking Water and Fire Suppression Improvement Project. This project is to replace old and undersized water pipes, install new fire hydrants, and improve water supply for fire suppression in the Kings Beach community of Lake Tahoe. This project benefits the community by improving fire-resilient infrastructure, ensuring adequate water supply for wildfire suppression, and safeguarding the lives and properties of residents and seasonal tourists in the Lake Tahoe area.
Finally, we secured $1.25 million for Tahoe City Public Utility’s project to completely replace the original 1940’s infrastructure of the Madden Creek Water System (MCWS). Replacing all existing water mains with new 8-12” diameter mains will increase the system’s capacity and reliability to provide drinking water and improve pressure and flow rates critical for fire suppression. Having these improved water lines in the region will help us fight future fires and emergencies.
To help our first responders, we secured funding for the Placer County First Responders Radio Interoperability Project: This request would allocate $1,360,000 to Placer County to purchase 160 Motorola APX 8000 dual-band radios for the Sheriff’s Office.
“On behalf of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, I want to extend my sincerest gratitude and thanks to Congressman Kevin Kiley for helping to secure $1M in federal funding for dual-band radios These dual-band radios will not only facilitate seamless communication and interoperability between multiple agencies but also significantly improve our responsiveness to life-threatening emergencies. As the Sheriff, ensuring the safety and security of the citizens of Placer County is my utmost priority. With the acquisition of these state-of-the-art radios, we are confident that our office will be better equipped to handle any situation that arises, ensuring the well-being of our community members,” said Placer County Sheriff Wayne Woo.
I advocated for and secured $1 million for Pride Industries’ Modernizing Transportation for People with Disabilities Project. The purpose of this project is to modernize PRIDE Industries’ transportation fleet for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This initiative includes replacing aging vehicles with zero-emission vans. This project benefits the community by ensuring reliable, safe, and environmentally-friendly transportation for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, promoting their independence and access to employment opportunities, while reducing reliance on social welfare programs and aligning with state climate change mandates. PRIDE Industries awarded me with the AbilityOne Champion award in January for my continued support of those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Click here to learn more.
Placer County Events and Visits
Last October, I joined Placer County Supervisor Shanti Landon and Placer County Animal Services (PCAS) to raise awareness and celebrate National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month with discounted adoptions. I was honored to partner with Supervisor Landon and PCAS on this event to promote animal welfare and help these pets find a loving home. I look forward to doing this event again in the future.
Thank you to Roseville Police Department Chief Troy Bergstrom for walking me through the Real Time Crime Center, which is a valuable tool in stopping retail theft. It aggregates all of Roseville’s video resources into one point, allowing the RPD to respond quickly with patrol officers to interrupt crimes in progress.
