After over a year of inoperability due to 2023 winter storms, I am happy to report that the Bridgeport Post Office has finally reopened. This has been quite a journey getting the Post Office to this point, but we’re all glad it’s finally back to full function for the summer. Thanks to the Mono County Board of Supervisors for their support and partnership on this project and a special thanks to the local postal workers who stuck out some difficult conditions to keep the facility functioning this past winter
To improve health care and emergency services in Mono County, we secured $215,000 for the Bridgeport Ambulance Replacement Project The purpose of this project is to replace an ambulance used by a critical care facility that no longer complies with emergency response vehicle safety standards. This project would benefit the community by providing a new, reliable ambulance to replace an end-of-lifecycle unit, ensuring the continuity and safety of emergency medical services for residents in the area.
Mono County is over 3,030 square miles of predominantly public lands known as the eastern gateway to Yosemite National Park,” said Chair of Mono County Board of Supervisors John Peters. ”We are a proud rural county where people from all over the country come to live, work, and experience the land’s natural beauty. For that reason, we need reliable ambulances for rapid emergency response over vast areas. We thank Representative Kevin Kiley and his staff’s indispensable support to secure $215,000 in Community Project Funding for our ambulance replacement. With these funds, we are empowered to enhance our emergency response capabilities, ensuring that Mono County remains equipped to deliver critical medical assistance when it’s needed most.”
For Inyo County, we secured $1,500,000 to construct two separate fire stations in Tecopa Hot Springs and Charleston View. Click here to read more in the Inyo Register. This project will improve our emergency response and conditions for firefighters.
In the most recent appropriations process, I focused efforts on ensuring our evacuation routes are ready for emergency. We secured $1,000,000 for Mono County’s Evacuation and Emergency Response Route Improvements. This project would fund the construction of an evacuation route in Mono County. Specifically, it would – Increase the width of the road to 26 feet along Mattley Avenue in Lee Vining, construct a bridge and new road in June Lake, convert a walking trail to a wider dirt road in Swall Meadows.
Additionally, the City of Bishop Public Safety Equipment Collaborative will receive $1,214,366 to purchase a new ladder truck.
When the House passed the Water Resources Development Act of 2024 earlier this year, I included my support for the Inyo County Upper Lone Pine Creek Diversion Project. Inyo County will receive $7 million in Environmental Infrastructure funding for this critical project to improve safety during emergencies like flash flooding. I want to thank Inyo National Forest for walking me through their prescribed burn process. Recently, Inyo National Forest fire personnel along with supporting resources from neighboring forests have completed approximately 400 acres of prescribed fire operations on the Mono Lake Ranger District to improve ecosystem health and reduce hazardous fuels. It is important that the necessary steps for fire prevention and forest protection are taking place.
